The biggest snowstorm of the season struck Thursday morning unloading over a foot of the white stuff on Marion County and strangling transportation for nearly two days.

Marion City Commission dealt with a wide variety of subjects Monday afternoon — electric rates, snow removal, the definition of a tavern, and "dirty magazines."

May 31 is the date Marissa Kay Kukuk and her fiancé Gail Makovec have selected for their wedding date. Nuptial vows will be read at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Perry, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Blair (Nancy) Tharp, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Earl Wood of Marion, has been accepted into the spring nursing class at Butler County Community College, El Dorado.

Polly Ferrell has been selected by the Marion-Florence Chapter of the National Education Association as USD 408 nominee for the 1980 Master Teacher Award in the annual statewide program sponsored by Emporia State University. Other teachers considered for the nomination were Rex Wilson, Steve Hart, Susan Reid, Steve Janzen, and Jeff Brewer.

Lucille Britain, Marion, has officially filed for the second district county commission seat currently held by Edward Broz of Lincolnville. Britain currently is city clerk of Marion.

Pam Hett, who has worked at Mid-America Nursing Center for eight months as a nurse, was honored this week as employee of the month. She and her husband Glen live on a farm northeast of Marion.
