The Florence Elementary School held a small-scale spelling bee Monday. Greg Tice was selected the winner among sixth graders. The class alternate is Greg's twin brother, Brad. Lucy Guerra won the seventh grade competition and Chantal Nienstedt was selected top speller among eighth graders. Brian Dannenfelser was named alternate for both seventh and eighth grade classes. The winners will represent Florence March 3 at the Marion County Spelling Bee in Marion.

Val and Julie Klenda of Lincolnville proudly announce the birth of their first child, a son, Feb. 17 at Salem Hospital, Hillsboro. He has been named Phillip Valentine Klenda.

"Ask the Experts," a special program allowing young people to respond to questions from the older generation added humor and excitement to Thursday afternoon at Marion Manor. Eleven-year-old experts included Andy Hett, Alison Ogden, Edward Zeller, and Robin Summervill.

Bud and Lavonne Hannaford, along with Bob and Ilene Reinke of Wichita, spent the weekend in Oklahoma City visiting Max and Patsy Merrill. The Merrills had just recently moved there after spending eight years in London, England, with Esso Oil Company.

In the final round of team competition of the 21st annual Men's City Association bowling tournament, the Sears team of Max Hayen, Bill Burkholder, Jim Socolofsky, Bob Kelly, and Gene Winkler edged out first-round leaders, Hassinger's.
