Marion City Commissioner Lester Henderson will face a challenge from Marion businessman Ron Widler in the April 5 city election. Henderson is bidding for his third three-year term as street and utilities commissioner.

Theresa Kroupa of Marion has been selected as one of the contestants in the "Miss Kansas-USA" pageant to be held at the Kansas City, Kansas, convention center April 2, 3, and 4. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa, she was selected by a committee at Kansas State University where she is a student.

Marion has long awaited the opening of a shoe repair shop, and Harold Shields filled the void this week. His "Kobbler's Korner" is located at 1018 E. Main, with ample off-street parking for customers.

This week, James C. Donahue, as president and founder of the Donahue Corporation, has been named "1982 Kansas Small Business Person of the Year."

Judy Tajchman and Jay Smith exchanged double ring marriage vows March 6 in St. Mark Catholic Church. Father Gerald Pathe was the officiating clergyman.

Laurie Laubhan, bride-elect of Tom Koslowsky of Hillsboro, was honored with a miscellaneous bridal shower Sunday at the home of Vicki Jackson.

Stan Williams, Marion High School senior, and Stan Wyatt, a senior at Centre High School, were named to the all-Cottonwood Valley basketball squad last week. MHS seniors Bryan Hess and Tom Schaffer were cited for honorable mention.

Mr. and Mrs. Al Wynn of Marion announce the engagement of her daughter, Shawn Dalke, to Dale Geis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Geis of Durham. The couple has selected Sept. 25 at their wedding date.

John B. and Sandra Garrard of Antelope proudly announce the arrival of their first child, a son. John Wall Austin Garrard was born March 17 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton.

Jami Shirley and Amy Hett were named all-CVL last week in a polling of league coaches. Hett was one of three juniors named to the team. Shirley averaged over 15 points per game and posted an all-time scoring record of 1,049 points through four years of play.
