Auctioneer Ted Haefner called for bids Saturday morning on items auctioned for the East Park Project Fund. A goal of $1,000 was set for the mountain of donated goods, but a combination of bad weather and low attendance kept the final figures just under $700.

Voters of Marion County will be asked to decide whether or not to continue the county-owned Cedar Rest Nursing Home at Peabody when they go to the polls Tuesday.

Amanda Jane McLinden, infant daughter of Tom and Audrey McLinden, was honored with a miscellaneous "come and go" shower Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Garry Klose. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Klose and her co-hostess, Mrs. Terry Holt.

Five Marion High School basketball players were named to the All Cottonwood Valley League teams last week in coaches balloting. Boys' names included senior Brian Allen and juniors Kevin Jirak, Greg Boyle and Aaron Hett. Sophomore Jami Shirley was named to the first team of the CVL selections for girls' basketball. Lori Hett, senior, won a position on the second team, and junior Linda Williams received honorable mention.

Dr. John Slifer will be honored and recognized for his 45 years of faithful service to the Florence community when a reception will be held Saturday in the Florentine Senior Center. Light refreshments will be served. The Florence PRIDE committee, sponsor of the event, invites the public to participate in paying respect to the highly regarded physician.
