Contractors for the Marion County Jail project assured the county commission Monday that all unfinished work will be completed by next week. The $335,000 jail was officially completed last September, but has been plagued with small heating and cooling problems, water damage and a list of other items.

Janice A. Wiens, a 1980 graduate of Marion High School and currently a sophomore at Hutchinson Community College, has been awarded a Frederick R. Knautz Memorial Scholarship by Lutheran Hospitals and Homes Society of America. Wiens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Wiens of Marion, will receive a $1,000 scholarship. She plans to pursue a nursing career.

Easter bunnies Shirley Jo Hett and Kathy Sprowls enjoyed entertaining excited youngsters during the first Marion Easter Egg Hunt, held Saturday.

First Federal Savings and Loan sponsored an Easter promotion at the Marion branch office last week. Members of the Children's Savings club were required to blow and decorate eggs. Winners were Eric Albrecht, Kristy Herbel, Eric Thies, Brian Wunderlick and Allison Ogden.

Roger Hannaford, secretary of Marion Kiwanis Club, recently awarded pins to members who had perfect attendance for the past year. The pins were for years of cumulative attendance, not necessarily consecutive years. All however, had perfect attendance records for the past year. They were: Alex Case, 25 years; Bill Meyer, 22 years; Roger Hannaford, 19 years; Gerry Harris, 14 years; Leland Heidebrecht, 13 years; Larry Loomis, four years; Robert Brookens and Gene Winkler, three years; and Pat Fox, one year.

Cindy Heerey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heerey, was second runner-up in the South Central Kansas District FFA sweetheart competition held April 3 at Haven. She had been selected as Marion High School chapter sweetheart in September.

Teresa Seifert Loney, a native of Marion, has been selected to the city council at Beloit. She is the first woman to serve on the Beloit city council.
