Boy and Girl Scouts of the Marion community will benefit from a Memorial Day dinner to be held Monday at the VFW post home. Mrs. Howard Ford has donated a former military barracks building, located near Marion Airport, to the local scouting project. Kiwanians will tear down the building, saving the lumber for construction of the scout house. Money raised by the VFW project will got toward expense of building the house.

Jeffrey Youk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Youk of rural Durham and a May graduate of Kansas State University, has accepted employment as an agronomist with Ensminger Grain and Seed Co. of Moran.

Marion has been approved for meeting high standards in fire prevention according to the Kansas PRIDE committee. Marion has now been approved in 18 or 23 areas on the way to Pacemaker II status.

Darlene Vinduska, president and chairman of the board of Careers Unlimited, Inc. of Overland Park, has been selected as one of the top- 10 executives in the professional executive search/career development fields. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Vinduska of Marion, a 1972 graduate of Marion High School, and a 1976 graduate of Kansas State University.

Alice Hockensmith was named valedictorian and Jon Wiebe was named salutatorian for Marion High School's class of 1982 at commencement exercises held Tuesday night. Hockensmith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hockensmith of Florence and Wiebe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wiebe of Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bernhardt of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Shelli, to Ronald Hardey, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hardey of Florence. The couple is planning an outdoors wedding on Aug. 14.

Births announced in this issue were: Oliver Joel Good, son of Robert and JoAnn Good of Marion; Charles Raymond Bina, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bina of Lincolnville; Daniel Christopher Holub, son of Lt. and Mrs. Daniel Holub of Lemoore, Calif., and Ashley Lynn Meredith, daughter of Ross and Claire Meredith of Bartlesville, Okla.
