Elora Robinson emerged the victor in a three-way play-off for first place in the women's invitational golf tournament June 21 at Marion Country Club. A total of 37 women played in the nine hole tournament. Towns participating were Hillsboro, Herington, Council Grove, Peabody and Marion. Tournament results show Robinson in first place in the first flight, followed by Frances Puryear of Herington, second, and Dayle Unruh of Hillsboro, third.
Eight men from the I&R Platoon of the 143rd Infantry Regiment had plenty to talk about when they met at the Leo Scharenberg farm along the north bank of the Cottonwood River east of Florence. They came from across the nation to reminisce about the "Big War" of '43, '44, and '45. It was the second reunion the platoon has had in the 34 years since the war ended.
Vincent Vestring, Burns banker, was elected president of the Kansas Council of Chapters of the Soil Conservation Society of America at a recent meeting held at the Holiday Inn in Emporia.
A few weeks ago, all living children of the late Emil and late Ida Hedstrom gathered for a two-day reunion with dinner and open house at the Legion hall in Burdick. Attending the festivities were Frederick (Fred) and wife Florence, Lincolnville; Carl and wife Elsie and Lloyd and wife Christine, Burdick; Hazel (Hedstrom) and Jake Ulrich, LaSalle, Colo.; Clarence and Estelle, Central Valley, Calif.; and Ralph and Phyllis, Chico, Calif.
Mrs. Jon Thole and Jennifer and Mrs. Don Stenzel and Tamara took Michelle and Jill Thole, Jeffrey Stenzel, Mark Meisinger, and Robin Wineinger to Rock Springs Ranch where they will attend 4-H from Friday until Tuesday.
Gabrielle Dawn Longhofer was born June 15 in Asbury Hospital Salina. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Longhofer of Marion.
