Days are numbered for the half-century old concrete bridge over Luta Creek. The bridge is sagging at her seams and broken down in spots, but the Kansas Department of Transportation has not approved a contract to replace it with a sturdy fill which would improve the appearance of Central Park and the business district. The fill would have gentle slopes, be wider, and the attractive globe lights are to be maintained. City officials had hoped the project could be accomplished this summer, but no action was taken following bid letting in Topeka.

Rep. William R. Novak of Lost Springs has filed for a fourth term in the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 70 District, which consists of Marion and Chase counties.

Three suspected cases of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever have been reported to the area health officials, according to Charles Penner, sanitarian with the Marion County Health Department. One case has been confirmed.

Three members of the Marion High School FFA chapter have received scholarships to attend the National Youth Leadership Conference at William-Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., July 21-26. Brenda Ellis, Kathy Hayes, and Matt Wineinger received the scholarships which are sponsored by Cooperative Grain and Supply in Marion, Hillsboro, Lehigh, and Canton.

Ten Cub Scouts in their first year of scouting were awarded Bobcat badges at the third annual Cub Scout Day Camp held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Marion County Lake. Bobcat pins went to Bret Sprowls, Shane Kline, J.D. Schill, Jason Summerville, Matt Gultz, John Wheeler, Dwayne Stika, Josh Martin, Shad Winter, and Jerod Sardou.
