It won't be a bridge, but it'll replace the one that spans Luta Creek between the post office and Central Park, and construction on the project is expected to start Monday. The present bridge will still be in use on Old Settlers' Day, Sept. 25, officials said.

Janice Wiens of Marion and Lisa Clark of Burns were each awarded $300 scholarships Thursday night at the annual meeting of St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary. Wiens received the Dr. Albert Wheeler Scholarship and will apply it toward her education at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Wichita. Clark received the Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship and will use it to fund her education at Newman Hospital in Emporia.

Carla Stovall, a native of Marion, graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in August with a juris doctor degree. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stovall of Marion and the granddaughter of Bernice Ford of Marion and Frances Stovall of Florence.

Lori L. Hett and Douglas A. Heerey exchanged marriage vows Aug. 22 in the Marion Christian Church. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hett and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heerey, all of Marion.

Sue Rust of Wichita was complimented with a miscellaneous bridal shower Sept. 9 in the home of Sharon Bird, Augusta. Miss Rust of the bride-elect of Brad Herbel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Herbel of Marion.

Girls and Boys Staters will be guests of honor Sept. 20 at a covered dish supper in Central Park and will report on their experiences following the meal. Girls Staters are Stephanie Loney, Cindy Heerey, Lisa Richmond, and Linda Robinson. Martin Kroupa, Hugh Webb and Mitch Carlson are the Boys Staters.

Greg Bowers of the Farmers and Drovers National Bank, Marion, completed a two-week banking course at the University of Wisconsin at the top of his class. Bowers recently attended the special course for bankers on the UW campus at Madison, Wis. He completed the course with a standing of first in his class of 432 bankers enrolled.

Polly Ferrell of Marion was one of two judges for the 4-H boys' Fashion Revue at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson Saturday. She is the Marion High School home economics teacher.
