David R. Montgomery, son of Dave Montgomery of Marion and a graduate of Marion High School, has been selected to be advanced to the rank of captain in the United States Navy. He lives in Windsor, Conn.

In an attempt to head off problems in law enforcement, especially at Halloween time, the city commission passed an ordinance Monday that completely bans the sale and use of fireworks within the city limits. It is all inclusive, 365 days of the year, with no exceptions.

Marion's Gena Helmer will be competing in the Kansas Junior Miss Pageant at Belleville Saturday. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Helmer, she is a senior at Marion High School and was selected as the Tri-County Junior Miss this summer.

Nineteen Marion High School juniors published a special edition of the school newspaper Friday as the culminating activity of a three week unit on the newspaper, "Warrior Country News." Students involved in production the newspaper were Penny Burkholder, Julia Carr, Mickey Costello, Margi Dyck, Jeff Harris, Rod Just, Kris Kelsey, Mike Kerns, Debra Kreutzman, Mary Medina, Trudy Ratzloff, Doug Regnier, Melissa Robinson, Mike Schmidtberger, Jami Shirley, Sherry Snelling, Jon Wiebe, and Loraine and Loreen Wiens.

Nettie Williams, one of Marion's best known citizens, has been named "Woman of the Year" by the local Business and Professional Women's Club chapter. She was a charter member of the local organization when it was formed in 1955. During that time, she has held every office in the club except treasurer.
