It looks like Marion will soon have another new bridge. The old concrete bridge across Luta Creek on Main Street is being replaced by an attractive fill. And the S-turn low limit bridge on South Third over the Cottonwood River is being replaced by a stronger bridge and a straighter roadway. This week, announcement was made that plans are underway to replace the narrow bridge across the Cottonwood on U.S.-56 at the west edge of Marion.

Terry Bradshaw, Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback, took advantage of the pro football strike last week to shop for some horses at the Tee Jay Quarter Horse Ranch at Canton. Bradshaw bought six fillies from Duane Walker, owner of the ranch.

Four members of Marion Chapter 278, Order of Eastern Star, were honored at the unit's annual Friendship Night. A pin was presented to Mercil Wight for 50 years continuous membership and 25-year pins were presented to Lillian Jackson, Helen Payton, and Ruth Rhodes.

Greg Jirak and Teresa Cott were named football homecoming king and queen at ceremonies conducted before the Centre-Sedgwick game Friday evening.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 60 held a camp-out Friday night at the Mike Holub country residence. Those participating in the event were Alison Ogden, Michelle Ellis, Tonya Jensen, Terri Helmer, Traci Helmer, Tina Holub, Christine Laue, Kerry White, Karen McClure, Patricia Robinson, Chrissy Barnett, Dana Spencer, Jill Fitzpatrick, Annie Hendricks, Jane Hendricks, Ann McLinden, Delores Spencer, Nanette Lowry, Pauline Holub, and Luci Helmer.
