Bert Becker pleaded guilty Tuesday in Morris County District Court to two counts of second degree murder. Originally charged in Marion County District Court with two counts of first degree murder in connection with the May 22 shooting deaths of his estranged wife Lovella, 40, and 47-year-old Goessel policeman John Morgan, Becker won a change of venue plea Sept. 14.

Cattle producers from Marion and Chase counties gathered Friday afternoon to hear Strait Ranch manager Randy V. Mills, discuss the nutrition, calving and bull testing programs that have made Black Angus bulls raised on the ranch southeast of Florence well known in Kansas.

Senator and Mrs. John Crofoot were among state legislators who attended the annual football classic at Lawrence Nov. 3 when the Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Wildcats from K-State. Legislators enjoyed lunch in the Kansas Union and heard short speeches by administrators from both universities.

Farmers and ranchers in the Marion-Chase county area will enjoy another in a long series of Farm-City steak fry parties Monday in Marion. The men will eat in the basement of the city building, then move upstairs for a program of entertainment presented by Bennie Holtsclaw, talented singer and musician from the Clements area.

Open doors at lunch time, something Marion High School students have enjoyed for years, may slam shut. The Board of Education discussed termination of the school's open lunch policy following people expressing concern about the attitudes of kids — about drugs and alcohol being obtained over the lunch hour.
