Marion County elective officers were sworn in Monday, all except Treasurer Kathryn Schimpf, who will succeed herself in October. Sworn in were County Clerk Marquetta Eilerts, Register of Deeds Dorothy Lawrence, County Commissioners Earl Mueller and Charles DeForest, County Attorney Doug Westerhaus, and Sheriff June Jost, the only one installed who had previously served a full term.

The Dairy Palace recently opened its new east wing, which seats 50 people.

Ann Christensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Christensen of Marion, is working in the Metropolitan Secretarial Practicum at Wichita during the month of January as part of an interterm course. A senior in secretarial science, Ann is a student at Tabor College.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hett, rural Marion, announce the engagement of their daughter, Julie, to Dwight Nelson, son of Mrs. Ivan Winter, rural Marion, and the late Arlyn Nelson.

Last week Pauline Ferrell's food exploration class put its skills to the test — the test of the taste buds. Each student created an original recipe and prepared it during a regular class session. Tammy Sandwell and Jeff Christensen tied for first with Sandwell's "Crunch Delight" winning in a "munch off." Christensen's "Mexican Delight" came in second, followed by Nathan Smith's "Barocini," third, and Gena Helmer's "Sloppy Genes," fourth.

Jan Nuss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Nuss, Marion, will represent Kansas in the National Shorthorn Lassie Queen contest this weekend in Denver.
