J.L. Fruechting was elected chairman of the Marion County Planning Commission Thursday night at the commissioners' monthly meeting in Marion. Fruechting, a former resident of Aulne now living in Marion, has served as vice chairman on the commission for the past two years.

At the Monday afternoon meeting of the City of Marion commissioners, Ira Newcomer and Bob Hoover were re-appointed to the Marion Local Housing board which administers Hilltop Manor low-income housing complex.

Tim Christensen, who will be married to Michon Schroeder on Dec. 19, was guest of honor at a garden and tool shower Sunday evening at the J.B. Miesse home. Other hosts were Jack Regnier, Charles Heerey, Mick Summervill, Jim Fruechting, Gary Carlson, and Scott Miesse.

David Mueller of Tampa, a graduate of Centre High School, has been elected to the student senate at Kansas State University. He represents the College of Agriculture. Mueller is a senior majoring in agricultural economics.

Tillie Hein, chairman of the Sunflower Senior Citizens, arranged a tour to Winfield and Dexter on Thursday. Thirty seniors from Tampa, Pilsen, Hillsboro, and Marion went on two 60+ buses. At Dexter, they went through Henry's candy factory and at Winfield, they toured the Binney & Smith crayola factory.

Gary Schuler has taken over as district conservationist for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Marion County. Schuler, 29, took over Nov. 15 from the retiring Al Gantz. Schuler and his wife, Mary, live in a farm home east of Marion.

Julie Kerbs and Agnes Bina accompanied Denice, Ramie, and Chuck Bina to Wichita's Cow Town Saturday where Julie and Denice competed with about 1,200 other runners in a two-mile Turkey Trot" road race.
