City linemen were called out early Tuesday when high winds caused a switch to trip a circuit breaker at the city power plant shortly after 1 a.m. City superintendent Junior Bredemeier said the outage was restored after about 45 minutes. He said the winds caused two power lines to make contact with each other and blow the switch.

Births announced in this issue include Amanda Mae Stafford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stafford of Hays, and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hett, Marion, and Jay Aaron Keazer, son of Jim and Melody Keazer of Rogers, Ark., who is the grandson of Tommy and Betty Thompson and Harold and Janet Keazer of Marion.

At their December meeting, Mrs. Kenneth Muse gave a program preparing members of Neo-Century Club for the Christmas season. Mrs. Muse shared her impressive Christmas card collection, telling how the custom started in Egypt and the first card originated in Germany in the 15th Century.

Nancy Soyez, a junior from Cedar Point, is a member of the Emporia State University basketball team. Soyez is a graduate of Chase County High School.

Jane Johnson of Marion will visit London, England, in January. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnson of Marion, she is a student at Kansas Wesleyan in Salina. Jane and other students will spend from Jan. 4 through 25 in London on a literary tour.

John Van Schagen, an FFA student from the Netherlands who spent about eight months with the Steve Krispense family this summer, came Friday for a visit with them. John is now working in a Denver greenhouse. He brought with him a large, beautiful poinsettia with 30 blossoms. It came from the green house where he works and he brought it as a gift to the Krispenses.
