Marion Warriors gained the third-place trophy in the Circle tournament Saturday evening when they defeated the Maize Eagles 74-52. Boyle exploded for 22 points, Jirak added 14 points, Hett, 12, Smith, eight, Allen and McGahee, six apiece, and Stan Williams, Doug Webb, and Carl Wolf, two points apiece.

Butler County Community College, El Dorado, has listed the following area students on the fall semester honor rolls: Edith Smith of Burns, Anita and Robert Woelk of Goessel, Patrice Ewert and Lori Harris of Marion.

Timothy Newfield was convicted on Thursday of second degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, and aggravated robbery. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 29.

Ronald D. Kirkpatrick of Florence suffered a broken collarbone Jan. 18 when a road scraper owned by the Marion County Road and Bridge Department slid off a bridge and tumbled into a creek a mile east and two miles north of Lehigh.

Kimberly Duke, a senior from Marion, has been initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a national academic honor society at Kansas State University, Manhattan. Duke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Duke, is studying interior decorating.

Friends in Marion were pleased this week to read rave reviews in the New York newspapers about the debut of Beverly Hoch following her appearance there Jan. 22. A coloratura soprano, she was also featured in an article in Sunday's Wichita Eagle.

The Chase County Bullpups remained undefeated Thursday with a 51-24 decision against the Florence Middle School Wildcats. Kerry Kelsey led Florence with 13 points. Monte Dalke scored four points, Marty Fredrickson, two, Jeff Burkholder, two, Randy Kelsey, two, and Myles Zeller, one.
