In an effort to repopulate North Central Kansas with native wild game, the Kansas Fish and Game Commission released five adult tom turkeys Thursday evening north of Marion. The turnout site along Clear Creek is the same one used last November when the commission released nine hen turkeys, according to Charles Schmidtberger, state game protector for Marion County.

Three Marion County men, all employees of Beech Aircraft Corp., were killed Feb. 4 in a head-on auto-truck collision on the Whitewater River bridge on K-196 at Whitewater. The three men are James Smith, 45, of Marion, Larry J. Schwind, 38, of Hillsboro, and James D. Crawford, 57, of Peabody. James Smith's father, Lonnie Smith, shocked by the tragic news, suffered an apparent heart attack and was taken to St. Luke Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Junior girls who will represent Marion's American Legion Auxiliary, Kiwanis Club and banks at Girls' State this spring are delegates Mickey Costello and Loraine and Loreen Wiens. Alternates are Margi Dyck, Debbi Kreutzman, and Melissa Robinson.

Members and visitors at Valley United Methodist Church treated choir director Bob Brookens to a birthday celebration Sunday. Brookens' parents, Judge and Mrs. John W. Brookens of Westmoreland, were on hand for the festivities.

Al's Café in Lost Springs re-opened Jan. 29 after being closed several years. According to Delora Alvarez, owner, most of the interior was remodeled; paneling was installed, tables and restrooms were added.
