Norman Bowers of Marion has been elected president of the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors for 1981. He also recently formed a partnership with Babar Khan, establishing a new engineering firm at Wichita.

Navy Lt. j.g. Daniel F. Holub, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Holub of Marion, has been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal. He was cited for superior performance of duty with Attack Squadron 97 during a deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea from November 1979 to June 1980. Holub served as the squadron's ordnance officer, flight deck ordnance safety officer and maintenance training officer.

Mrs. Edward (Mary) Costello is president of the Marion Library Board for 1981. Other officers elected include Mrs. Kenneth Muse, vice president; Mrs. Gail Merrill, secretary; Mrs. Ralph Melton, treasurer; and board members Mrs. Kenneth Wingerd, Mrs. Howard Link and Mrs. Gerry Harris.

Marion's Homecoming Queen is Leslie Burkholder and her escort is Greg Boyle. Queen runners-up were Jan Nuss and Joan Hiebert.

Gena Helmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Helmer, and Jan Nuss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Nuss served as pages for State Senator Jerry Karr Feb. 18.

Members of Brownie Girl Scout Troop 64 enjoyed a belated Valentine's Day party at Kingfisher's Inn after school Feb. 17. Brownies enjoying the outing were Angie Bina, Brenda Bina, Mickie Druse. Michelle Gooding, Christine Laue, Shawna Myers, Amy Raleigh, Patricia Robinson, Kimberly Stark and Kerry White.
