Max Gough, county EMS director, submitted his resignation Monday at the weekly meeting of Marion County Commissioners. Mentioning no reason for his decision in the letter, Gough said a number of things had happened recently, and he felt it was time to move on. He has served as emergency medical services director since 1977.

Continuing the May Fete tradition in Marion, members of the Charlie Brown musical cast and other Marion High School students wound the May Pole. The event coincided with downtown merchants' sidewalk sale on Saturday.

Centre High School juniors Linda Albrecht and Robyn Novak have been selected as delegates to Sunflower Girls' State to be held on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence June 14-21. Linda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Albrecht, will represent Gilbert-Poppe American Legion Auxiliary, Lincolnville, and Robyn, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Novak, will represent the Howard Dickerson unit of Lost Springs.

Eighty-three Cadettes and adults of the Flint Hills Girl Scout Council met in Emporia for a bus trip to St. Louis. Girls from a seven county area included Kelley Enos, Wendy Hett and April Ogden and their leader, Cheryl Simmons, from Troop 66 in Marion.

The Cedar Point-Clements alumni banquet was held Saturday evening in the Cedar Point auditorium. Approximately 140 were present for the meal prepared by Darlene Evans, Kathy Molzen and Louise Shumate.

Winners of the Voice of Democracy VFW-sponsored speech contest were honored recently. Ron Wineinger, first place winner, received a check for $100 from John Britain, Voice of Democracy chairman. Others honored were Paul Loney, second place winner, and Linda Williams, third place winner.
