Representatives from the Kansas Department of Economic Development sat before a crystal ball Tuesday night and gave an audience of 150 townspeople a look into Marion's future. George Matthews and Mike Hauck spent 90 minutes explaining details of their recommended downtown improvement plan to businessmen and interested spectators gathered in the city building basement.

Cerita Anne Konecny, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Konecny of Pilsen, will receive a $300 scholarship from St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary. Cerita will enroll next fall at Kansas Newman College in Wichita. Patti Sue Padgett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Padgett of Florence currently is studying to be a medical technologist at Wichita State University. She, too, will receive $300 from the auxiliary.

Nine Marion High School students competed in Harvey County's second annual college bowl Monday in Newton. Marion team number two, comprised of Ron Wineinger, Greg Boyle, Jon Wiebe, Cathy Hayes and Ann Waner were eliminated in the quarter finals. Members of the number one team, which lost in the preliminary rounds were Paul Loney, Kelly Blackman, Alice Hockensmith, and Cindy Heerey.

Eugene Enos, Marion, has been presented with a master angler award from the Kansas Fish and Game Commission for catching the fourth largest walleye in the state this year. Enos hooked the 7 pound 12 ounce walleye at Marion Lake.

About 40 second graders from Hillsboro Elementary School paid a visit to Marion Thursday morning for a tour of sights around town. The first stop was at the Marion County Record where students were introduced to the computers and video display terminals in the composing room. The children also visited the courthouse, had lunch in Central Park, toured the Marion County Historical Museum and visited the Flint Hills Clay Works.
