Ron Wineinger is becoming accustomed to the title "president." He was named Kansas FFA president last week, is South Central Kansas FFA president, president of the local MHS chapter, and also was president of his senior class. Ron is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wineinger of Marion.

Les and Celia Byer have been invited to display their artwork June 13-14 at the Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina. In order to be invited, artists were required to submit slides of their art and a resume. The displays will be judged and prizes awarded to the winners.

A caravan of horses and wagons is scheduled to travel though Marion June 13. The group, expected to number about 50, is part of an arthritis Santa Fe Trail Ride, sponsored by the Kansas chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and the Saddle Clubs of Kansas.

Melinda Collett was honored at a bridal shower May 26 at the Lincolnville United Methodist Church. Hostesses were Verla Cott, Evelyn Matz, Sue Gutsch, Chloe Triggs, Wilma Hett and Rose Olive Hett.

Trooper John Stultz has received a promotion to the rank of sergeant in the Kansas Highway Patrol. The promotion becomes effective June 18. A native of Pittsburg, Stultz came to Marion in 1969 where he trained under Trooper Frank Boyle.

Carla Stovall, a second-year student at the University of Kansas School of Law, has been selected as one of 15 justices on the university's traffic court. All the students chosen have served as attorneys in the traffic court. Stovall is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stovall of Marion,

Jay Beaston, who had been associated in the family grocery and meat market business at Marion nearly his entire lifetime, died Saturday. Most businesses and offices in Marion closed Tuesday afternoon during the hour of his services, in honor of his many years as a Main Street merchant.
