Marion taxpayers are spending $16,000 to paint the water tower near the high school grounds. It will get a new coat, inside and out, so the old landmark may continue to serve the community. Vandals who paint on the tower not only take a big physical risk, they also risk legal punishment and cost their parents a bundle of taxes.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Nickel and their 18-year-old daughter Sandra live at 115 Elm, the home they recently purchased from Dr. and Mrs. T.C. Ensey. Ted is vice president of Tabor College at Hillsboro. They moved to Marion from Tulsa, Okla.

The best scores turned in Sunday at the 10th annual Marion Lake Fishing Derby belonged to Carrol Joy, Wichita, fifth; Mark Janzen, Wichita, fourth; Claude Herd, Haysville, third; Jim Lehrman, Goessel, second; and Ed Jeffery, Marion, first place.

Kathy Hayes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Hayes, and Jenny McGuire, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe McGuire, have been selected to receive scholarships to participate in the National FFA Leadership Conference July 6-11 in Washington, D.C.

Ann M. Christensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Christensen, and Randell E. Crask, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Crask, Wichita, were united in marriage June 13 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

The cast for Mud Creek Players' presentation of

"Story Theatre" has been selected. It includes Jackie Richmond, Linda Schaffer, Patricia Klenda, Kathy Henderson, Bob Brookens, Kelly Blackman, Bill Hoch and Pat Fox. The production is scheduled for July 24 and 25 in Central Park, Marion.

William Helmer, Rosalie Schmidtberger and Jo Ann Ottensmeier, all of Marion, will be recognized at Greeley Gas Company's annual employee award dinner.
