Ernest Hett, assisted by his brother, Russ, installed attractive wrought iron signs over the two walk-in entrances to Central Park during a rainy Monday morning, while Randee Loomis and Margaret Pickering watched from the protection of an umbrella. Sponsored by 20th Century Club, of which Loomis is president and Pickering is project chairman, the signs were constructed at Err Hett's Copper Shed.

Meggan Silhan, four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Silhan of Pilsen, was chosen as first place winner in the 3- to -4-year-old category in the Tri-Rivers Fair Baby Beauty contest Aug. 5 in Salina.

Cottonwood Valley Young Farmers and their wives in attendance at the Flint Hills tour near Emporia recently were Leonard and Jan Frantz, Willie and Kala Nickel, Mick and Marge Summervill, Dan and Donna Dalke, Allen and Sharon Boese and Ron Bartel. The two-day tour included stops at Iowa Beef Processors, Dolly Madison Bakery, Marlow Woodcuts, Bunge Corporation, and various farming and ranching operations in the area.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Berg of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Donna, to Dennis Bernhardt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Bernhardt of rural Marion. A June 1982 wedding is planned.

Entries in this week's Produce Derby include three 2-pound cucumbers grown by Richard Rittel, a giant squash weighing 8 1/4 pounds brought from his grandmother's garden in by Matthew, 5-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Holub, and a 10 1/2-pound cantaloupe grown by Wanda Richmond in the green house at Conyers Flowers.

Doug Kjellin, Marion High School Future Farmers of America officer, recently attended the week-long leadership conference in Washington, D.C. He also visited Mount Vernon, the National Archives, Smithsonian Institution, Arlington National Cemetery, and the office of Congressman Dan Glickman. Doug is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kjellin.

Sue Fruechting, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Fruechting, received a bachelor of health science degree July 31. She graduated magna cum laude from Wichita State University.
