Marion High School concert band will play in a public performance Friday to show off new uniforms and to display the talent which won the group such outstanding honors at the recent state music contest.

Dr. and Mrs. David Chatara, Ashland, Ill., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Nathela, to Richard Morse, Somerville, Mass., son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Morse of Marion. A home wedding is being planned for August 5.

Mrs. Albert Steele, Alan, Kevin and Tony flew to Wichita last Tuesday from Fairbanks, Alaska. Sgt. Steele, who has been stationed at Fort Wainwright, drove the car and arrived in Marion Sunday. Mrs. Steele and sons will remain with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Amick, while Sgt. Steele attends school in Aberdeen, Md., for the next three months.

Winner of the "Mr. FHA" contest at Marion High School this week was Scott O'Dell of Florence. He was in competition for the title with Pat Robinson and Gary Friesen. The candidates had to make cloverleaf rolls, iron a ruffle, and put makeup on three girls (Cindy Christensen, Kathy Kelsey, and Lisa Brose). Judges were Ken Forsyth, Jim McPheeters, and Dave Deutschendorf.

John Short, Wichita, who has 27 years of experience in the refrigeration, heating and cooling business, will open a store in Marion this week. He has leased the former Marion Bakery building and will operate from that location.

Twelve students from Marion County will receive degrees at Kansas State University, Manhattan, at commencement exercises Friday. Those from Marion include Tamara Case Stone, BS in home economics; William John Schimpf, BS in agriculture; David Joseph Klenda, BS in agriculture; and Gregory L. Bowers, BS in agriculture.
