Marion County has received a check of $51,834.60 as its portion of collections made from asphalt companies in an antitrust case in Kansas.

The board of directors of Marion National Bank has appointed Leroy Riggs cashier of the bank, continuing a banking tradition that has been strong in Marion County for more than a half century. Leroy is the son of Glenn Riggs and a member of a pioneer Marion County family. He was raised in the banking business. His father was on the staff of the Burns State Bank for nearly 50 years and retired as vice president.

Three students from Centre entered the state track meet this year. They were Jon Nelson, Vince Klenda and Marsha Poppe. Marsha took first place in the softball throw with 218'1". Jon threw 45'11" in the shot-put and Vince went 5'8" in the high jump.

Friends and neighbors gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Terrance Vinduska recently to "welcome" them to the community as Mr. Vinduska has joined his father in farming near Pilsen. Refreshments of homemade ice cream and cake were served. The Vinduskas received gifts of "de-labeled" cans from those attending the party.

Students from Marion High School attended the annual Hesston Corporation tour and luncheon for Future Farmers of America. More than 80 guests toured the corporation office and plant facilities before meeting at the Hesston Colonial House. Attending from MHS were Larry Goering adviser; Martin Tice, principal; Glen Hett, Brad Turk, Paul Kraus, Gary Friesen, Toby Moore, Mark Tajchman, Donna Fisher, Mary Endres and Robert Hoffman.

Marion farmer Ted Lais, 59, was killed May 24 when the tractor he was operating overturned, pinning him beneath it.

Norman Alexander won the Marion Country Club handicap tournament over the Memorial Day weekend with a 36-hole score of 142 and 127 net. Second place went to Mark Rathert and third to Harlow Warneke.
