Kent Green was arrested at Burns Tuesday evening by County Attorney Gaylord Maples, KBI and Treasury officers, and Sheriff June Jost. Green was accused of implication in hijacking a truckload of ammunition.

C.E. Cook announced this week that he has terminated his General Motors automobile and truck franchises in Marion, effective last Monday. Cook Motors, Inc., has operated in Marion for 22 years. The local agency had Chevrolet car and truck, Pontiac and Buick franchises with General Motors.

Three McPherson boys had to be pulled out of the water at Marion Lake Monday night after their sailboat overturned. Marion County Sheriff June Jost and game protector Charles Schmidtberger led the rescue, with help from deputies and lake personnel. A Fish and Game Commission boat was used.

Cindy Heerey celebrated her eighth birthday June 1 by inviting a few friends to her home for a party. Games were played, gifts were opened and refreshments served. Invited guests were Jean and Jane Seibel, Stephanie Loney, Gina Warnica, Jami Vogel, Sheri Grentz, Lisa Richmond, Lori Endres and Dawn Hoffman.

Richard Rittel entered roses in the 14th annual Topeka Rose Show June 3 and came away with several top awards. He received two first place, two second place, and one third place ribbons and honorable mention ribbons for 11 other roses.

Melissa Hett of Florence and Sharon Anderson and Diana Case left Sunday for the 31st annual Sunflower Girls' State held this week on the University of Kansas campus. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hett, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Anderson, and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Case Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Johnson of Marion and daughters, Tonya and Tiffany, are the first winners in the Vagabond Weekend. Their vacation, good at any North American Holiday Inn, was presented to them by Ed Gilham of Newsom's Flowers.
