Several Marion area students will depart July 10 on a European tour to participate in musical performances in four countries. Members of the 112-voice Mid — Kansas Choir going on the tour include Sharon Anderson, Deb Link, Sue Lundgren and Jeff Longhofer, Marion; Jeanna Fulton, Salina, and Betsy McCallum, Solomon. Betty Gilham and Pat Heinz, Marion, will perform with the Mid — Kansas band. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Forsyth will travel with the group as sponsors.

The Marion County Record's old news press left Marion this week for its new home in Salina, where it will make cardboard inserts for the expanding Tony's Pizza market.

Among those from Marion participating in a piano recital at the Arnold Regier home Sunday afternoon were Ann Christensen, Lori Harris, Sherry Kelly, Elaine and Jan Nuss, Julie Hett, Carol and Janet Ehrlich, Shelly Cowan and Beth and Carol Regier.

Debbie Francis was surprised Friday evening when her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Francis, invited several girls for a slumber party honoring her 16th birthday, which was Saturday. Guests were Joni Wiens, Denise Magathan, Cheryl Lawrence and Crystal Kerbs. Cheryl Break was unable to attend.

A scouting platoon from the 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, spent one night last week at Marion Cove on Marion Lake. A helicopter flew in hot chow for the men. They eat "C" rations two meals each day while on recon-patrol duty.

Three young men working for the Marion County Highway Department eight miles south of Marion on Third Street road were burned Monday afternoon by hot road oil. Hershell Ferrell, at his first day on the job, was most severely burned. He was taken to St. Luke Hospital where he was admitted for treatment. Jim Herzet and Mike Good were treated at the hospital and released.
