MEMORIES:   35 years ago

Nine empty tank cars on an eastbound Santa Fe train jumped the track just east of Canada Friday afternoon. The accident took place about 3 p.m., between the town of Canada and the main access road to the west side of Marion Dam, three miles west of Marion. The nine cars were severely damaged. They also did considerable destruction to the railroad right of way.

This weekend's Vagabond weekend winner is Mrs. Ronald Hurtig of Marion, who received her prize from Margaret Ehrlich at the Sears Catalog Store.

Former students and teachers from Dickerson School District 16 enjoyed a reunion July 15 at Marion City Building. Former teachers in attendance were Edna Summervill Wait, Mabel Willey Robison, Ruth Johnston Schubert and Lillian Leppke Robertson.

Tamara Stone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rosse Case, Marion, has accepted a position as an assistant buyer with Crown Center in Kansas City.

Five students from Marion attended the Kansas State Teachers College summer debate camp held on the campus during June. They were Cindy Esslinger, Melissa Hett, David Colburn, Sharon Anderson, and Barbara Boyle.

Kris Conyers became a flight attendant July 20 when she graduated from TWA's Breech Academy in Kansas City. Kris will be based in Los Angeles.

A number of Boy Scouts and leaders returned Saturday from a week spent at Quivera Scout Ranch, near Sedan. Those participating were Mike Bredemeier and Dale Snelling, leaders; Ronnie Wunsch, Ronnie Kristek, Van Kerns, Dennis Kelsey, Brad Pippin, Casey Case, Kevin Wilson, Danny Snelling, Brad Esslinger, Tommy Allison, and David Roberts.
