There were a good many vehicle crashes and mishaps on Marion County roads and highways Monday and Tuesday due to the icy road conditions. At least five wrecks were reported Monday and two on Tuesday. Several were not reported because they did not involve $100 damage.

Dennis Navrat, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Navrat of Marion, has been named to the North Dakota Council on the Arts and Humanities by Governor William Guy. Navrat is associate professor of art at Dickinson State College and is chairman of the school's division of art.

Mrs. V.L. McLinden will be installed as president of the Kansas Cow Belles at a meeting to be held Friday in the Broadview Hotel in Wichita. Roseva has been serving during the past year as president-elect of the organization which is an auxiliary to the Kansas Livestock Association.

A new high school textbook in government, "American Political Behavior," is off the press. It is the work of Howard Mehlinger and a fellow faculty member at University of Indiana. Mehlinger is the son of Mrs. Alex Mehlinger of Marion.

Shelley Batt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Batt, arrived safely in Paris last week with the Kansas Sate University concert choir. The choir will perform in seven eastern and western European countries, including several behind the Iron Curtain.

Mayor Jack Regnier made the following appointments at this week's meeting of the city commission. Max Jackson, Alex Case Jr. and B.C. Powell were appointed to the airport board; Alex Case Sr., Ollie Wight, and Rosse B. Case to the cemetery board; and John Britain to the planning commission.

The pig farrowing house on the Dan and Lester Peterson farm south of Burdick was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning. All the pigs and sows in the house were lost in the fire. The building was valued at $30 thousand and the pigs and sows at some $20 thousand.

Double ring wedding vows were repeated by Jan Herrick and Gerald Wiens at seven o'clock Monday evening, December 27, at Valley United Methodist Church, Marion. The groom's uncle, Rev. Lawrence Heart of Clinton, Okla., was officiating clergyman.
