Vernon Swanson, a student at Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia, has been hired by the Marion Chamber of Commerce as a full-time secretary-manager of the organization and to serve as a city promoter for Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stack have purchased the former Fred Allen home in Marion and plan to open a complete home decorating store with a large line of accessories and gifts in the building formerly occupied by Dohner Paint Shop.

Anita Hett, Marion High School senior and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Hett, has been named the local winner in the Betty Crocker 1970 search for the "homemaker of tomorrow." Anita is now eligible for one of 102 college scholarships totaling $110,000 according to Mrs. Pauline Ferrell, local homemaking instructor.

A group of Senior Scouts and one guest ignored the snow and cold to camp overnight Dec. 29 in a lean-to type shelter at the Eugene Enos suburban home. Campers were Daryl Enos, Doug Marler, Don Smith, Mike Jackson, Walt Lammert, Senior Scouts; Gary Friesen, a guest; and Eugene Enos, leader.

Sgt. James Ottensmeier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levern Ottensmeier, arrived home Tuesday from a tour of duty on Okinawa. Sgt. Ottensmeier will have a three week leave before reporting to Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, Wyo.

Donald W. Myers, Peabody, territory manager for Nutrena Feed division of Cargill, Inc., in eight counties of Central Kansas, is one of the ten top managers named to the 1970 Nutrena President's Club.

A $11,775 check will be issued to the Sisters Adorers of Christ's Blood as the second payment of a 10-year contract to purchase St. Luke Hospital. This money is made available by a tax levy of .42 of a mill on the district to pay off the debt owed to the sisters for the facilities.
