Mrs. J.W. "Matie" Harrison, who lives at Spain Guest Home, enjoyed birthday greetings Tuesday from President Richard Nixon in the form of a telegram from Key Biscayne, Florida. The message was as follows: "Mrs. Nixon and I were delighted to learn from Congressman Garner E. Shriver that you are celebrating your 106th birthday Jan. 30. We want to add our congratulations and warm wishes that peace, joy and contentment will always be yours. Richard Nixon."

Kansas Senator John Crofoot, Cedar Point, was named an officer of the Kansas Native Sons Sunday at the annual meeting in Topeka. Senator Crofoot assumed the position as secretary of the 70-year-old organization on Kansas Day, Jan. 29.

An old familiar landmark is being removed from the Marion scene. The former Seymour Packing Co. building, now owned by W.M. "Bud" Pierce is being razed by Clyde Richmond. When the job is complete, Pierce plans to construct a modern new steel building on the same location.

The Florence Junior High Wildcats are champions of the Cottonwood Valley League. Members of the team are Marc Smith, John Goentzel, Van Kerns, Jeff Schinnerer, Doug Vogel, Gary Hett, Craig Smith, Brad Heerey, Rod Richmond, Jay Wealand, David Rittgers, Robin Hill, and Gary Boyle. Doug Francis and Gary Turk are managers and Steve Greenemeyer is coach.

Rita Kreutziger returned home Saturday from Romania where the Tabor College choir was on a three week study concert tour in that country. Rita is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Kreutziger of Canada.
