Sondra Van Meter from the department of history at Wichita State University, working in conjunction with a carefully chosen board of advisers, has completed the book, Marion County, Kansas, Past and Present, for its publisher, Marion County Historical Society, Inc. First copies of the 9"x12" volume, which sells of $17.50 plus tax, arrived in Marion during the past few days.

Lt. Gov. David C. Owen will be in Florence Saturday to address Central District Press Association editors. He will speak at the banquet to be held in the Harvey House Museum. Barbara Farley, editor of the Florence Bulletin is president of the Central District Press Association.

Five students from Marion County have been included on the fall semester honor rolls of the various schools and colleges within the University of Kansas. They are: Glenn Ray Meyer, senior in the college of arts and sciences and Herbert L. Pankratz, special student in the school of business, both of Hillsboro; Wayne Arthur Poppe, sophomore in the college of arts and sciences, of Lincolnville; David C. Magee, fifth year student in the school of pharmacy, and Eric Meyer sophomore in the school of journalism, both of Marion,

Brent Hayen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Hayen, celebrated his 5th birthday with a party at the Hayen home Thursday, Feb. 15. Guests included Trent Richmond, Travis Hett, Shawn Krause, Kevin Burkholder, and Craig Mueller.

Principals and counselors from Marion and Centre high schools will join 200 from other Kansas schools when they visit freshmen students at Kansas State University Thursday for conferences with their former pupils. Representing Marion will be Gordon Wakeman, principal; Dave Deutschendorf, counselor; and Jan Cyr, science teacher. Principal Jim Smith and counselor Jim Wyatt will represent Centre.
