Ladies of the auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6958 in Marion have had a highly successful year with their hospital program. Cedar Rest, Peabody Memorial Nursing Home, and Spain Guest Home, as well as St. Luke Hospital have all benefited from volunteer work of the ladies.

Glenda Fike, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Fike, Ramona, was crowned homecoming queen at Centre High School Friday night when the Cougars hosted and defeated the Marion Warriors. Glenda's attendants were Kathy Edmonson, escorted by Tim Kerbs; Lori Krause, escorted by Bob Carlson; Bev Backhus, escorted by Mark Moffitt, and Jacintha Konency, escorted by Doug Mueller. Glenda's escort was Clay Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown of Lincolnville.

Tampa Knights of Columbus members entertained their families with a pizza party Sunday evening at the Catholic hall. Game warden Charles Schmidtberger of Marion showed a film and presented an interesting program on pollution.

The Kansas State University State University Symphonic Band will appear here March 11 in another event sponsored by the Marion PRIDE Cultural Arts Council committee.

Lynn Christensen took six area farmers to Moline, Ill., Feb. 21 to see the IHC factory there. The six, all of whom had purchased machinery since Jan. 15, were Kenny Novak, Tampa; Junior Ehrlich, Willard Harms and Ed Klein, Marion; Eldon Pankratz, Hillsboro; and S.D. Flaming, Peabody. They toured the tractor and combine plants.

Jack Loomis, a senior at Marion High School and the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Loomis, has been selected for the second consecutive year to be listed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students." Jack is an outstanding student and athlete.
