Dorothy and Toto are back in Kansas. They brought along the Wizard of Oz, Tin Woodman, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and the whole show. McDowell Marionettes is at home in Elmdale. In that friendly Chase County community, Max and Jan McDowell build their puppets and stages, compose dialogue, program the action and the narrative into close continuity, then plunge into weeks of intensive rehearsal for upcoming shows.

Jan Jantz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Jantz of Marion and a junior at the University of Kansas, is one of 52 members of the KU Synchronized Swim Team Water Show, which was presented at Robinson Gymnasium pool last week.

Groups of women from Marion and Emporia Business and Professional Women's Clubs were in Cottonwood Falls Monday night for the 100th anniversary dinner of the Chase County B&PW Club. Mary Ann's School of Dance entertained with a program after dinner. Those attending from Marion included Ella Socolofsky, Sally Stack, Bernice Ford, Alta Rains and Ruth Meyer

Philip Schubert of Ramona, a sophomore in arts and sciences at the University of Kansas, received the third place award for a picture story in the sixth annual Student Union Photography contest.

A number of Marion people drove to Wichita Friday or Saturday nights to hear the symphonic choir of Friends University, "The Singing Quakers," in vocal concert. Beverly Hoch was one of the soloists. Those going were Mrs. Charles Herrick, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Wiens, Mrs. Wharton Hoch, Mrs. Wallis Hoch, Mrs. Alex H. Case, Mrs. John E. Wheeler, Mrs. Wayne Varenhorst, Mrs. O.W. Meyer, and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Forsyth.

Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Boese of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Vicki Kay, to Gary Dean Hajek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hajek of Lost Springs. A spring wedding is being planned.

A party was enjoyed at the senior citizen's community center March 8 when members planned and successfully surprised Mrs. Gordon Wolf, executive director of Hilltop Manor, who was celebrating her birthday.
