Two of the top spellers in the recent Marion County Spelling Bee are students in Marion and Florence schools. Marsha Jackson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jackson of Cedar Point, took second place and David Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bryant took third. Fred Harn of Hillsboro was the champion.

Herschel George, Marion County Extension 4-H Agent, has announced that the annual Spring Beef Show will be held in Marion this Saturday, April 8.

Marion High School will send 10 juniors to Boys' and Girls' State this summer on the campus of the University of Kansas at Lawrence. Sponsored by Marion and Florence American Legion posts and their auxiliaries, the students are Randy Conyers, Eddie Hett, Chris Costello, Don Bredemeier, Jim Crofoot, Roger Williams, Teresa Case, Jo Marie Mueller, Jeanna Fulton and Darla Shipman.

Troy Schmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schmidt, was the winner of the bicycle at Dave's IGA store last week.

On March 17, 20 Marion High FHA girls attended the state convention in Topeka where Willy Meier was installed as district song leader. Others who attended were Janice Bowers, Joni Elling, Shirley Hamm, Denice Helmer, Dena Edmisson, Jean Holt, Joni Kroupa, Becky Bishop, Cora Klassen, Rose Goentzel, Kathy Weigart, Helen Annis, Beverly Bowers, Carol Holt, Crystal Hein, Alice Gantz, Diana Case, Alice Hett and Jane Bingaman.

Lynn's Truck and Tractor, Marion farm machinery dealership, fed 800 people a full meal of pancakes and home-style "whole hog" sausage on Thursday of last week.

Marsha Poppe, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Poppe of Lincolnville, was first place singles winner in the senior girls division of the Kansas State Junior Bowlers Association tournament held in Hays and Ellis in March.

Marion High School's two-man team comprised of H. Crainer and John Higgins won the Remington Invitational Golf Tournament held at the American Legion course in El Dorado. Crainer had an 89 and Higgins shot 90. Marion's four-man team tied for third at Moundridge. Brent Colle shot 90, Roger Hannaford 97, Chris Costello 96, and Tom Britain 105.
