Dean Pippin, former owner of the IGA store in Marion, will become the State Farm Insurance agent for this area next Monday, May 1. Since selling the IGA store Pippin has been engaged in the wholesale candy business. In addition to servicing new accounts, Dean will also handle accounts of former agent Dave Thomas.

Two Candy Stripers were capped Thursday evening at St. Luke Hospital by Mrs. Boyce Baumgardner. In order to earn a cap, the girls must work 250 hours in the program. Those receiving the caps were Bev Swanson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Swanson, who worked 264 hours, and Pam Richmond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Richmond, who has worked 273 house in the Candy Striper program.

Four Marion girls and two from Florence joined the Walk for Mankind to benefit Project Concern, which was held Saturday at Wichita. Patti Forsyth, Cheryl Lawrence, Neva Oller and Theresa Costello were the Marion walkers with Linda Depler and Terri Willingham representing Florence.

Sheriff June Jost announced this week that he intends to run for a second term on the Republican ticket, subject to the August primary.

Mike Ehrlich, 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ehrlich, was awarded grand champion in the Hereford Heifer Division of the Winfield livestock show Saturday.

Two little girls from Marion County were among the 10 winners in a recent Wichita Eagle comic section contest featured in the April 9 Cappy Dick puzzle. Rochelle Mueller, 7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mueller, Marion, and Donna Marie Ellis, 9, of Florence each were awarded Shoe Button Craft Kits.
