Word reached relatives in Marion Saturday morning that Private First Class Robert Lee Boese had been killed in action while serving in the United States Army in Vietnam. He has been reported "missing in action" since May 23.

Dave Klenda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Klenda, Marion, has been awarded a baseball scholarship at Kansas State University. Dave is an outstanding pitcher, and has been playing on the Marion American Legion baseball team. He also was a football star at Centre High School.

Conrad Osburn, M.D., will spend three months in Marion this summer as a part of a three-year "specialist in family practice" resident program from Wesley Hospital in Wichita. Dr. Osburn will practice with Dr. T.C. Ensey of Marion.

Lysle Russell, who has been associated with the Marion County Engineer's office since 1934, was appointed by the board of county commissioners on Tuesday to fill the vacancy caused by the unexpected death on Friday of James F. Meisner.

Eight classmates helped Jimmy Rigler celebrate his eighth birthday May 26. After refreshments of Kool-Aid, cupcakes and ice cream bars, the boys went on a treasure hunt. Those present were Danny Snelling, Billy Hoch. Ronnie Woerz, Dennis Kelsey, Brett Pippin, Dennis Druse, Gary Williams, Danny Bernhardt and Jimmy's sister Sherry.

The children attending the 1968-69 Mother Goose Nursery School invited their mothers to a sack lunch at Central Park last Monday. Students present were Jeffrey Burkholder, Jeffrey Conyers, Melanie Conyers, Michele Costello, Jeffrey Harris, John Koslowsky, Karoly Kohls, Roger Kohls, Rochelle Mueller, Melissa Robinson, Holly Shields, Darla Vogel and Jamie Vogel. Each mother received a progress report on her child. Michele Costello, Jeffrey Harris, Melissa Robinson and Darla Vogel will be entering kindergarten this fall. They wore graduating caps and received diplomas admitting them to the degree of Bachelor of Tales.
