A van, which had picked up a variety of animals in various places in the Southwest, broke down Monday and stopped at Marion Motor Center for repairs. Girl Scouts attending Day Camp at Marion County Lake were alerted and they and their leaders were thrilled to see the animals.

Mrs. Charlotte Hoffner of Newton has been notified by an officer of the Marine Corps that Pfc. Larry W. Hoffner was wounded in action by mortar fire while serving his county in Vietnam. Latest word received is that he will be hospitalized in Japan for several months.

Dean C. Batt, local attorney, has returned after traveling through Europe and Iron Curtain countries with other lawyers and judges from Kansas.

Enjoying ice cream and cake at the Marvin Bernhardt home last Wednesday morning in celebration of the first birthday of Diane Bernhardt were Mrs. Rex Wilson, Kevin and Lisa. Rhonda LeMay, Mrs. Boyd Linnens, Mrs. Mike Loveless and Tammy of Lincolnville, Casey Case, Danny Sherbert, Jimmie Rigler, Joni Wiens, Connie Bernhardt, Bradley Herbel, and Danny and Dennis Bernhardt.

The marriage of Pamela Sue Stone of Topeka and Richard Wayne Varenhorst Jr. was solemnized May 31 in the chapel of Lowman United Methodist Church, Topeka.

Mrs. James A. Wheeler hosted a party at her home Thursday evening in honor of the Candy Stripers. Those in attending were Brenda Foth, Debbi Case, Sue Wood, Pam Griffith, Cathy Coe, Vickie Klassen, Lucinda Jost, Betty Linn, Ruth Morse, Kathy Bezdek and Rosemary Goentzel. New Candy Stripers attending were Karen Pankratz, Teresa Case, Jo Marie Mueller, and Red Coats Jeff Longhofer, Dennis Schafers, Richard Britain, and Pat Heinz.

Dale Hobein of Denver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hobein, left by plane June 18 from Wichita for New York where he joined 60 other teachers of advanced German who will attend a nine week language institute. Hobein teaches German at North Glenn Senior High School in Denver.
