Kansas senior Senator James B. Pearson and Colonel William Read of the Tulsa District, U.S. Corps of Engineers, dropped out of a dripping sky Tuesday morning onto a grassy incline at Marion Lake and were escorted by project engineer Cecil Wilson to the area where work is going on to stop seepage of the dam. Mayor Jack Regnier, Roger Hannaford, Gerry Harris, W.M. (Bud) Pierce, Eric Meyer and Ruth Meyer of Marion were on hand for a half-hour visit with the senator and corps officials.

Mrs. Dean C. Batt was elected president of the board of education of Marion Unified School District 408 at its regular meeting Monday in the administration building. Virgil Wiebe was named vice president. Board members Batt, Wiebe, Jim Hett, Ralph Popp, Ray Davidson, and Dennis Seifert were present.

Bev Hoch, reigning Miss Marion County, left Tuesday for the Miss Kansas pageant in Pratt.

Marion Cub Scout Pack 102 met Monday evening for their July summer outing. A boat rowing contest was held on Mud Creek at the Sugar Mill Dam area. Winners in the 8-year-old division were Jeff Harris, first, and David Baliel, second. Nine-year-old winners were Bryan Taylor, first, and Rodney Schmidt, third. Winners in the 10-year-old division were Casey Case, first, David Richmond, second, and Bradley Esslinger, third. A family watermelon feed followed in the park.

Mr. and Mrs. James Seiler of Colwich announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Rose, to Francis Jirak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jirak of Tampa. A fall wedding is planned.

In the summer program baseball games this week Kevin Jirak was named most valuable PeeWee; Tim Richmond, hardest worker; Brad Carlson, most improved; and Eric Wakeman, Mr. Clean. Gary Boyle was MVP for Midgets; Tim Vogel was hardest worker; Ron Kristek, most improved; and David Richmond, Mr. Clean.
