An 80-pound young mountain lion was found dead at the Clements corner on U.S.-50 Tuesday morning by Darrell Spence who took the animal to Cottonwood Falls in his pickup. Francis Towle, Chase County sheriff, called the animal a mountain lion like the ones in the Rockies and cautioned ranchers and travelers that if the baby was here, the mother was close by.

Miss Marion County is now also Miss Kansas. Margo Schroeder, 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Schroeder, Hillsboro, was crowned Saturday night at the conclusion of the 3-day Miss Kansas Pageant in Pratt.

Trucks were filled July 9th when neighbors cut the wheat for seriously ill James McCoy, then hauled the grain to the elevator in Lost Springs. The job, 100 acres on U.S.-77 near the Dickinson County line, was accomplished in less than half a day. It took 15 combines only a part of Wednesday afternoon to get over the three fields.

Tammy Case, Greg Bowers, and Barry Mueller spent Monday and Tuesday on the campus of Kansas State University where they pre-enrolled for the session beginning this fall. On Monday, Mrs. Rosse Case and Mrs. David Bowers attended parents' orientation and toured the campus.

Denice and Doug Helmer, twin children of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Helmer, celebrated their 13th birthdays July 9 at a family party. Homemade ice cream and cake were enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Helmer, Dennis, Darin, Denice and Doug, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Boese, Mrs. Robert Boese, Mrs. Anna Helmer, and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Seibel.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klose and Bob were hosts at a backyard "farewell" picnic July 13 for A1/C Garry Klose who leaves July 18 for Thailand.

The Marion American Legion baseball team has been idle for the past few days while seven players have been seeing action in the state Senior Babe Ruth tournament in Cottonwood Falls. Boys involved are Gary Melcher, Mark Bezdek, Terry Hill, John Phillips. Mike Bray, Dave Klenda, and Marvin Weber. They play in the finals for the state championship Wednesday night.
