Bill Law, representative of the Kansas Traffic Safety Program, presented a special "no death" safety award to the City of Marion on Monday. The award was received by Chief of Police Lyle Sanders and Mayor Lynn Christensen.

Marion Kiwanis Club will offer all sorts of prizes for all sorts of beards, in a contest to start August 1. All men in the area are invited to take part in the contest which will run until Old Settlers' Day, September 27.

Sergeant Stanley Scharping, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Scharping of Hillsboro, has received the Distinguished Flying Cross and his third, fourth, fifth, and sixth awards of the Air Medal. Sgt. Scharping, a flight engineer, was decorated with the DFC for extraordinary achievement when he flew a combat support mission over heavily defended enemy territory. His Air Medals were for outstanding airmanship and courage on successful and important missions under hazardous conditions. He is the husband of the former Ruby Stuchlik, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stuchlik, Lost Springs.

Brenda Foth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Foth, celebrated her 16th birthday with a watermelon feed and slumber party at her home Monday evening. Invited guests were Sue Wood, Melanie Hett, Brenda Helmer, Ginger Helmer, Sandy Anderson, Pam Griffith, Denise Wiens, Shelley Batt, Donna Parish, Patti Regnier, Rae Jean Woerz, Becky Wood, Karen Crainer and Karen Kaemmerling of Sand Springs Oklahoma and Denise Janzen of Wichita.

Carl M. Elling of Marion announces the engagement of his daughter, Beverly Jane, to Donald W. Hague, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Hague, Route 2, Marion. No wedding date has been set.

Miss Carol Sue Vinduska, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Vinduska of Lincolnville, has graduated from Wesley Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology. Miss Vinduska received the achievement award for the highest rank in the class and was voted outstanding student of 1969 by students and faculty.
