Workmen are making a lot of progress on the new shower and dressing rooms inside the Marion stadium. The stadium was constructed two years ago but the shower rooms were left out of the original structure due to cost. The building is being completed at less cost than the original plans specified.

Marion County was the hottest oil patch in Kansas a dozen or so years ago, and even the race for land leases and drilling activity has not kept pace with that era — it still continues, however, to be a major item in the economy of this area. Halliburton trucks were busy last week fracturing a well for Allen Oldham, north of Marion. The oil industry continues to be an important part of the local economy.

Two ball players from the Marion Legion team, Dave Klenda and John Phillips, played in the state "all star" contest at Lincoln August 16 and 17.

Miss Bobbi Bailey whose marriage to Steve Freeburne will occur Aug. 30, was honored Aug. 3 with a lingerie shower at the Ruben Winter home. Miss Kathy Winter was hostess. Guests were Donna Holub, Joyce Ford, Kathy Weber, Susan Marler, Teresa Seifert, Vickie Freeburne, Connie Robertson, Madeline Thompson, Barbara Gantz, Patty Endres, Anita Hett, Linda Kitterman, Jeanne Keazer, Linda Oller and Rae Jean Woerz.

Mrs. Felix Lee of Marion received word this week that her nephew, Sp/4 Robert A. Gillett, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gillett of Salina has received the Bronze Star Medal for heroism and the Combat Infantryman's badge for service in Vietnam. Gillett is a Centre High graduate.

Winners of the Marion Country Club annual match play golf tournament have been announced by Robert Edmunds, chairman of the golf committee. In the championship flight, Mike Wood defeated Don Hague for first place. Boyce Baumgartner defeated Wayne Colle for first place in the first flight. Keith Conyers defeated Dr. T.C. Ensey for first place in the second flight and Larry Maltbie won over Monty Avery for first in the third flight.
