Three beauties are the finalists in the Marion County Free contest to select "Miss Marion County" this year. The three finalists are Bev Hoch of Marion, Barbara Christiansen of Durham, and Cindy Goertz, also of Durham. Each will reign over the fair for a day and one of them will be crowned Thursday night by last year's queen, Margo Schroeder, who also is "Miss Kansas" and will represent the state next week and the "Miss America" pageant in Atlantic City.

Threshing stones of Mennonite settlers, who came in the area nearly a hundred years ago have become museum items. Bethel College has a number of them. But one that has been in the family for generations has been placed on the parking lot of Dr. E. Schroeder's dental office on East Main Street. The heavy cylindrical stones, corrugated and dressed by hand, were essential to harvest before machines were manufactured to replace them.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wray recently were presented the keys to the city of Denton, Texas, by Mayor L.A. Nelson. The Wrays, their daughter Linda, and Linda's friend Jonie Elling were "arrested" by the Chamber of Commerce of Denton while going through the town on vacation. They were extended the courtesies of the town, including motel accommodations, a tank of gas, and other items.

St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church was the scene of the wedding of Miss Mary Theresa Konarik and John R. Griffith at 11 o'clock the morning of August 16, 1969. The Right Rev. Msgr. Arthur Tonne officiated at the double ring rite.

Martin's Barbershop in Marion will reopen for business Sept. 6 after being closed for several months while owner-operator Martin Bina has been serving with the National Guard in the U.S. Army. Bina was one of many Marion area men called up by the National Guard. He has been stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Miss Teresa Case spent from Friday until Tuesday as houseguest of Miss Nancy Bennett and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bennett of Blue Springs.
