One of the attractions in Marion on Old Settlers' Day will be a miniature train which will be in the parade at 11 a.m. and also in town all during the day to provide free rides for children. The train is being sponsored by Farmers and Drovers National Bank and Marion National Bank. The train will haul 30 at a time. It has a bell and whistle and is said to be quite an attraction.

Dr. Caleb Abbott, a graduate optometrist, will open an office in Marion within the coming week. At the present time he is busy remodeling his office suite in the Wheeler Building just east of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. business office.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kruse announced this week that they have started selling lots in the East Shore subdivision near the Marion Reservoir, with full utility services and a beautiful view of the lake. The new development will be for both residential and commercial purposes. It is zoned and has been platted.

Marion Community Guild will celebrate its golden anniversary Tuesday evening, Sept. 16. Members of the Guild will celebrate 50 years of fellowship and service to the Marion community with a "Golden Banquet" to be held in the Marion Municipal Building. Charter members are Eldena Williamson Willey (now deceased), Clara Duncan, Irma Wolf Forney, Edna Frazer Shahan, Jewell Amick, Audrey Higgins Carpenter, Lillian Parker Pierce and Mrs. J.R. Beard.

Rochelle Mueller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mueller, celebrated her birthday last Thursday by inviting friends for a picnic in the park. Those enjoying a wiener roast and birthday cake were Holly Shields, Melissa Robinson, Michelle Costello, Melanie Conyers, Tammy Harris, and Jamie and Darla Vogel. Mrs. Harold Conyers helped Mrs. Mueller with the party.

Mike Wood, son of Dr. and Mrs. Earl Wood, took first place in the championship flight at the Marion Country Club Labor Day golf tournament. First place in the other flights went to Bob Brooks, Forrest Smith, Steve Heinz, and Ed Costello.
