U.S. Senator Robert Dole informed the Marion County Record by telephone this week of progress on the proposed ditch-dike-levee to be built around the west side of Marion for protection from flood waters of Mud Creek. Senator Dole said he believed the committee will approve the Mud Creek project on Nov. 19.

Bryce Ollenberger, a sophomore at the University of Kansas, is one of the Muleteers in the production of "Man of LaMancha" now playing at KU. Bryce is a Marion High School graduate and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ollenberger of Marion.

Miss Patty Sue Plenert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Plenert of Marion, and Gary Allen Peoples, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Peoples of Ponca City, Okla., were united in marriage October 10 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

Joella Smith celebrated her birthday Tuesday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Smith. Guests who enjoyed ice cream, cake, and Kool-Aid were Loreen and Loraine Wiens, Michelle Costello, Janene Dreier, Melissa Robinson, Kristine Kelsey, and Joella's sisters, Jalynn and Jandee.

Eight-year-old winners in the Marion Motor Center "Punt, Pass and Kick" contest last week were Gary Ehrlich, first, Bradley Esslinger, second, and Brian Bowers, third. Nine-year-old winners were Jerry Hett, first, Casey Case, second, and Billy Hoch, third. Winners in the 10-year-old category were Doug Heerey, first, Ricky Richmond, second, and Thane Schwartz, third.

William L. Darrow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Darrow, Marion, is a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at Kansas State University, Manhattan.
