Old Jack Frost arrived this week to delight hay fever sufferers but to the dismay of flower and garden lovers. The official readings at the Corps of Engineers office at Marion Lake recorded a 31 for a low early Sunday morning. In Marion, the official reading taken at Newsom Greenhouse, showed 29 that morning.

Again this year, the Marion Chamber of Commerce is inviting all farmers and ranchers in the area to a big free steak fry. The event will be held the evening of Nov. 23 at Marion Municipal Building.

Pilsen Elementary School fourth grade students who visited the Marion County Record office last Wednesday were Steven Jirak, Lori Reznicek, Joyce Noone, Marlene Dvorak, Julie Bina, Judy Nowak, Paula Benda, Benny Key, Kenneth Holub, John Vinduska, John Tajchman, Edward Silhan, Allen Makovec and Douglas Vinduska. They were accompanied by teacher Joyce Schneider and bus driver Skeeter Makovec.

Mr. and Mrs. Theo Holub announced the engagement of their daughter, Regina Marie, to Donald Vinduska, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Vinduska of Lincolnville. A May 6 wedding at Pilsen is being planned.

A delightful musical program was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Forsyth at the 20th Century Club Monday evening. Mr. Forsyth, as vocalist, sang numbers along the theme of "Love Songs Down Though History." Accompaniment was played by Mrs. Forsyth.

LeRoy Dreier, one of the top four "winningiest coaches" in Kansas, on a percentage basis during each coach's career, had guided the Marion Warriors for seven seasons. His record of wins in one of the best in Kansas.

When a Marion County dump truck loaded with five tons of sand, overturned five and a half miles south of Marion, two men were sent to St. Luke Hospital. Charles W. Gibbs, 48, of Peabody, driver of the truck was released after treatment, but George J. Helmer, 58, Marion, remained for further treatment.

With four extra policemen on duty Saturday night, Halloween in Marion furnished plenty of activity for all. Seven arrests were made with the county jail housing extra inmates over Sunday. Charges ranged from littering, shooting firecrackers, drinking beer in cars and in the city park, careless driving, and contributing to delinquency of a minor.
