The Board of Education of Marion Unified School District 408 met in regular monthly session Monday night with all members present. Considerable time was spent discussing pros and cons of possible mergers of schools within the district.

McConnell AFB officials this week asked the Marion County Record to advise the public, especially private pilots in this area that jet fighter aircraft will be flying low level missions during the month of November.

Homecoming royalty named at the Marion Warriors victory over Peabody Friday night included Pat Wood, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Earl Wood, who was elected queen, Janel Klose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Klose, and Vicki Vajnar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Vajnar.

Sgt. John L. Kline of Marion was wounded in action recently while on active duty in combat. He is serving with the Fourth Infantry Division in Vietnam. Sgt. Kline was wounded in the left leg as he was riding on an armored personnel carrier which was hit by a mortar shell. About 10 men were wounded with John being hit the worst.

Arthur Bell retired Nov. 1 after 31 years as custodian of the United States Post Office in Marion. "Bert Campbell was postmaster when I started working in 1938," Bell recalled. The post office was located at the corner of Main and Fourth streets now occupied by Quality Food Market. Following Campbell he worked for postmasters Harold Keazer, Paul Shahan and Ray Vinduska, present postmaster.

Jane Shea was guest of honor at a birthday party last Tuesday afternoon. The following girls enjoyed games and refreshments in honor of the occasion: Renda Thompson, Cindy Carlson, Gerry Ehrlich, Robyn Brooks, Betty Finke, and Linda Hein.

Rev. G. Carol Gilbert, pastor of Eastmoor United Methodist Church, will take part in the "Mission to Alaska" being sponsored by the General United Methodist Church Board of Education. Twenty-two ministers and three laymen are taking part in the mission from November 9 through 16.
