Matthew Classen, president of the Marion National Bank, was elected president of Marion Chamber of Commerce at the annual election meeting held Friday. Dorothy Varenhorst was elected vice president. Those named to the board of directors were Bob Brooks, Dr. E.K. Schroeder, and Dean Batt.

Marion has been designated a "growth center" in a study of local and state government financing released recently by Kansas Sate University. Marion is one of 43 cities so designated. The report describes these cities as being within easy reach of all residents of the state and noted for their well-rounded shopping facilities and above-average communications media.

Warren Fike, Ramona, was elected chairman of the Marion ASC county committee Monday. Larry Jost, Marion, was named vice chairman and Oliver Unruh of Hillsboro will be the regular member of the board, according to Ed Stenzel, executive director.

State Senator John Crofoot has been named chairman of the legislative and congressional reapportionment committee of the State Senate by Sen. Robert Bennett, newly-elected president pro-tem of that body.

Kansas State University students majoring in home economics are getting on the job training in Kansas City retail stores, to learn more about salesmanship, clothing, textiles, and retailing. Tamara Case Stone of Marion is working in the Jones Store.

Torrid shooting by center Daryl Enos led Marion to a 68-58 upset of Chase County Friday night. Enos accounted for 30 of Marion's points and held all league Bulldog center Joe Ayers to 10.

Several Marion County students will receive degree at the 1972 winter commencement exercises at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia. Included will be the following from Marion: Sherman K. Kelsey, Kaye M. Applegate, Edsel R. Schroeder, and Diann F. Wiens
