The Newton National Guard has honored three men who went from that unit to the war in Vietnam and were killed in action. Two of the men had lived in Marion. Plaques honoring the three soldiers were placed in the "memorial hall" entrance in the Newton National Guard Army. Present for the ceremonies were the three widows. They were Mrs. Robert Boese of Marion, Mrs. George Martinez of Newton and Mrs. Jose Llamas. Pfc. Robert Boese, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Boese of Marion, and Sp4 George Martinez, son of Juan Martinez of Marion, both grew up in Marion.

Brad Heerey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Heerey, invited several boys to a skating party at El Dorado Sunday afternoon to help celebrate his 12th birthday. Guests were David Hett, Rodney Richmond, Marc Smith, Gary Boyle, John Goentzel and Brad's brother, Doug.

Dear Santa: I was the New Year's baby when I was born, and now I am in the first grade. Please bring me Crissy, Velvet, Baby GoBye, Lassie, and a doll house. Also a jewelry box, a blue watch and size 6 pants and tops. Melissa Robinson, 620 Hudson, Marion, Kansas.

At the Dec. 8 meeting of the Business and Professional Women's Club, a Christmas skit, written by Mrs. Bill Holmes, was presented by Girl Scout Troop 66 with the help of Mrs. Leroy Riggs and their leader, Mrs. Robert Meier. Scouts featured were Teresa Costello, Ann Higgins, Theresa Smith, Cheryl Break, Melody Meier, Sandra Marler, Beverly Swanson, Janelle Dreier, Shelly Cowan, Suzanne Cook, Barbara Boyle, and Debbie Enos.
