Firefighters Ron Widler, Will Helmer, and Harlow Warneke were on the scene within a couple of minutes after the alarm sounded Monday at 4:40 p.m. They saved the two-story frame home at 202 Locust, but it was too late to save the life of Ben Province, who occupied the upstairs apartment. Province died of smoke inhalation from the fire which was thought to have been caused by a cigarette and started in a divan.

Former board members of the Marion Hospital which was located downtown, gathered at St. Luke Hospital Feb. 10 to wish one of their fellow board members, hospital patient Nodie Baker, a happy 97th birthday. The last surviving members of the original hospital's board are Gail Merrill, David Wheeler, Dr. Ralph R. Melton, August Schoneman, and Mr. Baker.

Rebecca and Debra Vinduska celebrated their ninth and tenth birthdays Feb. 13 with a party for a group of friends. Their sisters, Sharon and Susan, assisted their mother, Mrs. Harold Vinduska, in serving refreshments to guests Jamie and Darla Vogel, Angela and Michelle Helmer, Dena Tajchman, Jane Ann Stroda, Lori Reznicek, Joyce Noone, Theresa Kroupa, Judy Nowak, Julie Bina, Paula Benda and Marlene Dvorak.

Wedding vows were exchanged by Melanie Sue Hett and Larry Vernon Ensey at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 in Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hett and Dr. and Mrs. T.C. Ensey, all of Marion.

Bill Finke, Brent Colle, Joey Ragole and Louis Wegerer have been selected as delegates to Boys' State. Alternate delegates are Joe Endres and Fred Nelson.
